The LIBIS project has been developing since 1997. Project is delivered by the company "Sintagma". To ensure LIBIS' successful implementation and exploitation, the LIBIS center in Lithuanian M. Mažvydas library was established in 1998.
The goal of the project is to achieve standard solutions for main library processes: from acquisition and cataloguing to circulation (library customer services), including internet based services.
LIBIS consists of Local Automated Information systems (LAN) of 50 Lithuanian research and public libraries, and common subsystems. The main common subsystems operating within the LIBIS are:

Union Catalogue, providing access to holdings information on documents located in the 50 research and public libraries are taking part in shared cataloguing.

National Bibliographic Data Bank, providing access to bibliographic information of Lithuanian and related to Lithuania documents and data exchange.

Archive of electronic resources, providing harvesting and archiving, long term preservation and access of ER.
The main automated library system modules currently developed are: acquisition, cataloguing, serials control, circulation, OPAC, WWW-OPAC, publishing, ILL, statistics, CD ROM from catalogue, authority and UDC databases. LIBIS SW supports multilingual scripts. |
