Database Kaunas has been maintained since 2005. The aim is to select and systematize internet resources reflecting Kaunas' cultural life (culture institutions and organizations, information about artists and culture actors, etc.) as well as to make them available to public. To ensure data reliability and ease of use, the main attention is paid to criteria of the selection and description of the resource. Central criteria are: language, perspicuity, download simplicity, institution, attainability, and versatility of the views. Each resource is described by 6 parameters: URL, responsible institution/person, annotation, language, data type, key words. There are 3 basic divisions in the database currently: Culture, Art, History.  Within these are - 12 subategories.  Database is  constantly being  supplemented with  new data.

Background of the database is prepared in 2005. The information about fiction translations of Nordic Countries writers' to Lithuanian language and Lithuanian writers' translations to Nordic Countries languages is presented in this database. At present only information about the books translated to Lithuanian and Lithuanian writers' translations to Nordic Countries languages are presented. There are 152 records in Lithuanian and English languages, containing the main data about the book, scanned covers or title-pages of the books, photos and awards. Data is given since the XIX century. Database is prepared from gathered material from Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania, Kaunas County Library, Kaunas city municipal Vincas Kudirka Public Library, Vestfold County Library, Skane County Library, Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum, Vilnius University Department of Scandinavian Studies, Baltoskandija Academy and private collections. In the future database will be filled in with a new data.

Under menu item "Book Presentations" selected fiction of today is presented. Lithuanan books are presented in co-operation with an organization "Books from Lithuania", Norwegian fiction - in co-operation with an organization NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad, Fiction & Non-fiction ), Dannish literature in co-operation with "The Danish Literature Centre", literature from Finland in co-operation with FILI (Finnish Literature and Information Centre). In the nearest future selected books from other Nordic Countries will be presented as well.
